We had been invited to the preschool class to talk about being a dentist as part of their series on different occupations.
Thirty-two children were asked if they had visited the dentist in the past and we discussed their experiences. Using a power point presentation we showed them a few photos of the practice and explained what to expect during a check-up at Boldmere Dental Practice.
Afterwards we played a shopping game and each child was asked to pull out a “lucky dip” item out of a shopping bag and put it into a shopping basket if it was good for teeth or in a bin if it was bad for teeth. Items ranged from fruit and vegetables and oral hygiene products to sweets (pretend ones, of course!) .
To finish Elizabeth read a childrens story entitled “What’s that smell?” about a purple monster that can smell a bad odour of elephants bums and critter sweets, and finally remembers he forgot to brush his teeth before going to bed – eurgghh!
Each child was given a party bad to take home, containing a children’s toothbrush, brushing timer, toothbrushing chart and a fluffy sticky bug from the Oral Health Foundation.
We had a great time visiting our little friends at Springfields and look forward to returning in the future.
