Looking After Your Oral Health During Covid-19

After announcing the unfortunate closure of Boldmere Dental Practice to routine work during this difficult time, the team feel it is even more important for you to look after your teeth and mouth. This can prevent the need for treatment and also unnecessary contact. So, we thought we would share some quick tips and reminders for your homecare.

  1. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes. Last thing at night is the most important time, so you go to bed with clean teeth! When brushing try to think about cleaning each tooth individually so areas don’t get missed.
  2. Use something to clean in between your teeth at least once a day too. Ideally the largest interdental brush that will fit in the space, otherwise floss.
  3. If your gums bleed when interdental cleaning, don’t worry! This is usually a sign they are inflamed and more cleaning should help them settle.
  4. Staying at home can make it hard not to reach for the snacks, especially things like biscuits and chocolate. Try to be mindful and limit your sugar intake to a maximum of 4x a day including meals. Great alternatives can be cheese, carrot sticks, sugar free yogurt. Drinking more water between meals can help to wash away food and neutralise any acid in your mouth.
  5. And lastly don’t share toothbrushes, germs can spread this way too.

Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon on your return to the practice.
